A new look for the Seinäjoki parish website

Communications specialists Anna Ala-Kaarre and Heli Mikkonen have played a key role in the revamp of the Seinäjoki parish’s website.

The Seinäjoki Parish website is being revamped and will go live in week 35 as part of a major project by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. Between 2026 and 2027, almost 330 parishes will build their websites on the WordPress platform. Anna Ala-Kaarre, digital communications specialist at the Seinäjoki Parish, has been responsible for the update, together with the rest of the communications team.

“Our aim was to make it quick and easy to find information on the website, presenting it in an interesting and accessible format,” says Ala-Kaarre.

An accessible service

Accessibility on mobile devices is particularly important. 70% of visits to the Seinäjoki Parish website are made via smartphones. The parish and the Church are for everyone. In addition to usability, we also needed to pay attention to accessibility. The website is fully available in both Finnish and English and is also compatible with screen readers used by visually impaired people.

“We want the website to serve its users as well as possible,” says Ala-Kaarre.

The new website is a digital home for reliable, up-to-date information about the parish. Visitors are also directed to the website through social media channels. Further digital services for registrations and venue bookings are currently in development.

“The launch of the new website does not mark the end of the project. We continue to develop the website based on user experience and feedback,” Ala-Kaarre explains.

The Church evolves and develops

The new website’s look follows the Church’s fresh visual identity, introduced last year. Heli Mikkonen, Visual Communications Specialist at Seinäjoki Parish, worked on this Church-wide development project.

“It has been great to be involved in a national project like this, which has also given me the opportunity to develop my own skills,” says Mikkonen.

Laura Isoluoma has been seconded from the communications department at Seinäjoki Parish to the Church’s joint development team, where she is working as a web services specialist until the end of 2027.

“As an employer, the parish supports professional development not only through training but also by offering challenging opportunities for job rotation.”
