Food Bank
The Food bank provides free food assistance to households experiencing temporary financial or life difficulties. To receive food-aid, you must first talk with the diaconal worker responsible for your residential area.
Who is eligible for assistance from the Food Bank?
Individuals and families with low basic incomes can receive assistance from the Food Bank, as can those who have fallen on hard times for various reasons. People living alone who receive basic unemployment benefits can also receive a food basket in case of necessity.
For the assessment of the applicant’s financial situation, the applicant must provide documents/declarations of possible financial support, disability pension, KELA allowance, or any similar forms of benefit. Students must provide proof of enrollment from the institution.
How do I apply?
The assistance granting is always discussed with the diaconal worker first. This can happen either by phone or in person, in the diaconal office. During the conversation, the diaconal worker will assess the applicant’s situation and grant assistance on a discretionary basis if needed.
You cannot apply for food assistance on behalf of another person. Anyone in need of food assistance must apply personally.
All matters regarding food assistance in the Seinäjoki city centre area must always be dealt with in person in your local diaconal office or the Food Bank.
If you live in Nurmo, Ylistaro tai Peräseinäjoki, get in contact with the diaconal worker in your residential area.
