About the church
The Piiri church was originally built as a cemetery chapel in the year 1950 and was inaugurated as a church only in 1964. The church is currently leased by the Seinäjoki parish.
The church was dedicated to the memory of Edvard Björkenheim, who died in 1934. The buildings were designed by the architects Jonas Cedercreutz and Helge Railo, whose hands are also on some of the other buildings on the hospital site. In the construction work, patients from the hospital were also involved. The building’s inside and outside are well preserved, and the church has been well maintained in its original appearance.
The Piiri church is a church space featuring an organ and seating for around 70 people. Services and devotional gatherings are held here. These events are open to everyone. The venue can also be booked for christenings or wedding ceremonies.
