Grave care

General information

The Parish of Seinäjoki offers grave care agreements for a single summer season, a five-year period, or as a perpetual care fund based on capital invested by the family.

For summer care and five-year care agreements, a renewal offer is automatically sent in April following the end of the care period. The agreement can then be renewed for the next care season by paying the invoice. For perpetual care fund agreements, the family will be notified by letter when the invested capital is running low, giving them the opportunity to continue the agreement by adding funds.

Perpetual care fund agreements may also include additional services such as placing candles on the grave on All Saints’ Day or at Christmas, planting a rose for Mother’s Day, and planting heather in the autumn.

Care agreement offers are mailed at the beginning of April, and new orders can be placed throughout the year. New orders for the upcoming summer season are accepted until 22 June.

Flower Care

1 year, with the care fee determined according to the width of the burial plot

• Spring clean-up
• Preparation and fertilisation of the flower bed and the lawn or gravel surface
• Flower plantings (main and border plants, such as tuberous begonias and dusty miller, or main plants only), including planting
• Approximately 15 maintenance visits, including watering of flowers and care of the lawn or gravel surface
• Fertilisation and plant protection treatments
• Rinsing of the headstone surface with water when necessary
• Removal of flowers from the flower bed in autumn
• Autumn clean-up

Care Without Flowers or Perennial Plant Care

1 year, with the care fee determined according to the width of the burial plot

• Includes the same maintenance services as listed above, except that flower plantings and planting work are not included in the agreement.
• Ongoing care of the flower bed is provided as usual.
• The planting of a perennial flower bed is arranged separately.

Basic Restoration

The care fee determined according to the width of the burial plot

• A one-time service in which the flower bed and the lawn or gravel surface are restored and fertilised in the spring.
• Does not include stonework or ongoing maintenance.

Watering Care

The care fee determined according to the width of the burial plot

• 15 to 17 watering visits, from 10 June until autumn.
• Two of the watering visits include fertiliser application through watering.

Lawn or Gravel Surface Care

The care fee determined according to the width of the burial plot

• Restoration of the lawn or gravel surface in spring.
• Maintenance of the lawn or gravel surface from 10 June until autumn.
• For lawn graves, the area around the headstone is trimmed and finished using a string trimmer.

Five-Year Care Agreement

• Includes the same services as the Flower Care Agreement, provided over a period of five years.

Perpetual Care Fund Agreement

• Includes the same services as the Flower Care Agreement for as long as the invested capital remains sufficient to cover the care costs.

Callunas or Mother’s Day Roses

• The agreed number of plants is planted according to the care agreement, or the service may be included as part of a Perpetual Care Fund Agreement.
• When callunas are planted in autumn, conifer branches are also placed over the flower bed soil as winter protection.

Grave Candles

• The agreed number of grave candles is placed and lit at the grave according to the care agreement.
• This service can be included in a Perpetual Care Fund Agreement, with the dates agreed in advance.
• Available occasions include All Saints’ Day, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve.

Headstone Realignment

• Charged at an hourly rate of €60 per hour.

Two main plants are used for each grave plot, together with border plants where needed, or alternatively a group of three main plants. For each additional grave space, the number of main plants is increased by one.

Basic restoration work is charged at an hourly rate of €60 per hour, as is headstone realignment work.

Perpetual Care Fund Agreement

Includes the same services as the Flower Care Agreement for as long as the invested capital remains sufficient to cover the care costs.
