New memorials for the cemeteries
A maintenance agreement is a simple and convenient way to keep a loved one’s grave in good condition.
The Seinäjoki parish has completed construction of new sites for commemorating the deceased in its cemeteries. The landscaping work around the memorial in the scattering area of the Nurmo Cemetery is complete, and the area can now be used.
The ashes of the deceased in the scattering area will be scattered in an area specifically built for that purpose. In the memorial grove, on the other hand, the ashes are usually buried in an urn in a single location.
“The families of a deceased person in the scattering area may purchase a nameplate for the communal memorial, on which the deceased’s name and dates of birth and death will be inscribed”, says the park manager of the Seinäjoki parish, Esko Karttunen.
The expansion of the memorial grove
The area of the memorial grove dedicated to memorials in the Peräseinäjoki cemetery has also been expanded. Two new memorial pillars were located in the area to hold future nameplates. The memorial garden, in use since 2014, now has six pillars.
A memorial site can remain in the cemetery even if the family gives up the old grave site.
“In this way the families can still have a site where they can bring candles or flowers”, says Karttunen.
Signs on the graves
During the summer, all the unkempt graves in the cemeteries of Nurmo, Törnävä and Ylistaro have been charted. Great attention has been paid, for example, to tilted memorials, hard-to-read texts, and the vegetation surrounding the graves.
Notification signs with the parish’s contact information are placed on the graves yet to be announced. Family members should contact us within one year so that we can work together to determine the status of the grave and discuss next steps.
Options include, for example, independent maintenance of the grave, arranging upkeep through the parish or relinquishing the burial spot. “The purpose of the sign is to open a conversation and find a fitting solution for the grave in a peaceful manner”, says Karttunen.
